Back to Ceed

Privacy Policy

Effective 23 September 2026

The short version

  • You don't need an account to use Ceed.
  • What you type is used to generate suggestions and is not stored on our servers, unless you save it as a favorite and turn on sync.
  • Your preferences and history never leave your device. Your favorites live there too, unless you turn on sync, which copies them to your account so they follow you between devices.
  • We don't sell your data, don't run advertising trackers, and don't build profiles about you.

Who we are

Ceed ("Ceed", "we", "us"), formerly known as Conversate, is an app that generates conversation starters using AI, available as a web app and, in future, as iOS and Android apps. This policy explains what information we handle when you use Ceed, why, and the choices you have. Questions any time: support@ceed.social.

Information we handle

Content you type. Your vibe choice, custom topics, and situation descriptions are sent to our servers over an encrypted connection, used to generate suggestions, and returned to you. We do not save this content in our database. The only traces kept server-side are one-way fingerprints (hashes): one of your most recent situation text, used to tell a "try again" on the same situation apart from a new one for daily limits, and one of the situation your free walkthrough was for, so the free walkthrough is given once. A hash cannot be turned back into your words.

An anonymous device identifier. The first time you visit, we set a cookie containing a randomly generated ID. It is not derived from you or your hardware and tells us nothing about who you are. We use it to apply daily free-tier limits and to prevent abuse.

Usage counters. We record how many generations a device has used each day (for example, "7 starters today"). Counts only — never the content.

Usage analytics (first-party). We record which features of Ceed are used — for example, that a ceed was generated, a page was visited, or a deck was completed — linked to the same anonymous device ID used for daily limits. We never record what you type, the content of any ceed, or the situations you describe. If you first arrive through a tagged link from one of our own social profiles, we also note which profile that was (just a channel name, such as "tiktok"), and we never record referrer URLs or where you came from otherwise. This stays on our own systems, is never shared or sold, and is kept for at most 13 months. You can turn it off at any time in Settings under "Usage analytics", and deleting your account removes it.

Feedback you send us. If you use the in-app feedback form, we receive what you write, along with the page you were on, your tier, the app version, and your browser type, stored with your anonymous device ID so we can investigate. Include your email only if you'd like a reply. A copy also arrives in our support inbox, just as if you had emailed us. Deleting your account removes stored feedback too.

Data stored on your device. Your saved favorites, preferences, recent-generation history, and today's Situations result (until the day ends or you start a new one) are stored in your browser or app's local storage. Preferences, history, and Situations results are never uploaded. Favorites are only uploaded if you turn on sync. You can download a copy of your favorites at any time from Settings, and import it back later or on another device.

Your account. You don't need one to use Ceed. If you restore a purchase or turn on favorites sync, we create an account identified by your email address. There is no password: we email you a code to confirm the address is yours. The account holds your email address and, if you use sync, the favorites you have synced. You can delete it, and everything stored with it, from Settings.

Favorites you choose to sync. Sync is off until you turn it on. When it is on, each favorite you save is copied to your account: the starter itself, which vibe or deck it came from, any delivery hint, and when you saved it. Starters saved from Situations are handled more carefully, below.

Purchase information (when subscriptions are available). Payments are handled by the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Stripe (managed through RevenueCat). We never see or store card details. We receive your subscription status, plan, a transaction reference, and — for web purchases — the email address used at checkout, so we can send receipts and restore your purchase on a new device.

What we don't collect: your name, contacts, precise location, browsing history, or advertising identifiers. The web app contains no third-party analytics or advertising trackers.

How AI generation works

Suggestions are generated by third-party AI providers. On the home screen, each suggestion comes from one of Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, or Moonshot AI (Kimi) — we vary the model between generations so suggestions don't all sound alike, and a custom topic you add there goes to whichever of the three produces that suggestion. What you type into Situations is different: those descriptions go only to Anthropic, with OpenAI as an emergency backup, and never to any other provider. In every case your text is sent solely to produce your suggestions, and under the API terms we use, these providers do not use your content to train their models.

A practical tip: there's no need to include real names or identifying details about other people in a situation description — "my coworker" works just as well as a name.

Cookies

Ceed sets one cookie, first-party and functional (it keeps its original name from before the app was renamed):

  • conversate-device — the anonymous device ID described above (kept for about 13 months).

There are no advertising cookies, and no separate analytics cookie — usage analytics (described above) uses the same device ID and can be turned off in Settings.

How we use information

  • To generate your conversation starters.
  • To apply free-tier daily limits and the Plus fair-use limit.
  • To prevent abuse of the service.
  • To process purchases and restore them on your devices.
  • To keep your saved favorites available on the devices you use.
  • To understand overall usage through aggregate counts (never content).
  • To see which features get used, through first-party usage analytics (you can turn this off in Settings).
  • To read and act on feedback you choose to send us.

Who we share information with

Only the service providers that make Ceed work: Anthropic, OpenAI, and Moonshot AI (AI generation), Supabase (database), Vercel (hosting), and — for purchases — RevenueCat, Stripe, Apple, or Google. Each receives only what it needs for its role. We may also disclose information if the law genuinely requires it.

We never sell personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.

How long we keep things

  • The content you type: not stored, so nothing to keep.
  • Usage counters and device records: only as long as they're useful for limits and abuse prevention; old counters are periodically deleted.
  • Purchase records: while your subscription is active and as required for accounting and legal obligations.
  • Synced favorites: until you delete them or delete your account. Deleting removes them from our servers.
  • Usage analytics events: at most 13 months.
  • Feedback you send: until we have acted on it, or you ask us to delete it (deleting your account deletes it too).
  • On-device data: until you clear it — it's yours.

Your rights and choices

You can clear your favorites, preferences, and history from the app's Settings or by clearing your browser data. Deleting the device cookie resets your anonymous ID entirely. Settings also lets you export your favorites to a file you keep.

If you have an account, Settings → Sync across devices lets you delete it along with every favorite stored with it. That takes effect immediately. It does not cancel a subscription, because billing is handled by the App Store, Google Play, or Stripe — cancel there as well if you mean to stop paying.

You can also email us to ask what data is associated with your device or purchase email, or to have it deleted. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR (EU/UK), the Australian Privacy Act, or the CCPA (California). We honor these regardless of where you are — and for the record, we do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined in the CCPA.

Security

All traffic is encrypted in transit. Our database is configured so that only our own servers can read it — it is not directly accessible from browsers or apps. Secret keys never ship in client-side code.

A note on emotional wellbeing

Some situations people bring to Ceed are personal — reconnecting with someone, supporting a friend, a hard conversation. That content gets the same treatment as everything else: processed to generate suggestions, never stored on our servers. Your latest Situations result stays on your own device until the day ends or you start a new one, so it is there when you need it.

If you save one of those starters and turn on sync, the starter and any delivery hint travel to your account, but the situation you described, and the note on why the line works, stay on your device. They are only ever uploaded if you separately switch on "Include situation descriptions" in Settings, which is off unless you turn it on. Turning it back off deletes the descriptions and notes we already hold.

One thing we would rather say than let you assume: a saved starter can still reflect what is going on in your life, even without its description attached. Leaving sync off keeps all of it on your device.

Ceed is not a mental-health or crisis service; if you're struggling, please reach out to a professional or a local crisis line.

Children

Ceed is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has used the service, contact us and we'll delete any associated data.

Where data is processed

Our servers and providers operate primarily in the United States. By using Ceed, you understand your information is processed there.

One exception: Moonshot AI, one of the providers that can generate home-screen suggestions, is headquartered in China and may process those generation requests outside the United States. Only the prompt needed to produce that suggestion is sent to it — never your Situations descriptions, favourites, email, or any account data.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we'll update this page and its effective date. If a change is significant — for example, when mobile apps introduce optional rewarded ads — we'll flag it in the app before it takes effect.
